Peter Schäfer joins the executive management at Porsche Engineering Reinforcement for the executive management of the international engineering services provider

Weissach/Bietigheim-Bissingen. The Weissach-based Porsche Engineering Group GmbH is expanding its executive management: Effective June 1, 2018, Peter Schäfer (58), formerly the head of Complete Vehicle Development at Porsche AG’s development center, will be moving to a newly created additional Managing Director position at the wholly owned subsidiary of Porsche AG.

Porsche Engineering’s business model has expanded significantly over the past five years, both in terms of content and international reach. In addition to handling traditional vehicle development tasks, the company is making particular strides into the rapidly developing fields of digitalization and testing in its contract work for customers. This is all taking place within the context of a fast-developing international development network. The strategic business fields of engine and system development, testing and digitalization will henceforth be led by the Managing Director triumvirate of Malte Radmann (Chairman), Dirk Lappe and Peter Schäfer. The expansion of the executive management is primarily a response to the increased technical and organizational complexity.

“We’re delighted that we were able to bring in Peter Schäfer for this challenging role,” says Michael Steiner, Board Member for Research and Development for Porsche AG and Chairman of the Shareholder's Committee of the Porsche Engineering Group. “His excellent connections, outstanding technical expertise and experience in automotive development are the ideal prerequisites for this new role.” After his mechanical engineering studies and subsequent doctorate in the field at the University of Stuttgart, Peter Schäfer worked on chassis development for Ford and Volkswagen AG. He moved to the Porsche Group in 2003, and from 2004 to 2009 was the Managing Director of Porsche Engineering. After that, Schäfer took over as head of chassis development and ultimately complete vehicle/quality in the development department of Porsche AG.

“Porsche customer developments have an illustrious history,” says Peter Schäfer. “In the coming years, the Porsche Engineering Group faces a variety of technical and organizational challenges. Being able to take a leading role in shaping that and help promote the company’s further growth is a wonderful opportunity.”
