The office in Timișoara is located in the heart of the city, in the United Business Center building of Iulius Town Timișoara. It is equipped with modern digital technology so that employees can fully experience the new era of hybrid working. The development of highly automated and autonomous vehicles represents a major challenge that our software engineers gladly accept to prepare the cars of tomorrow. Our work is in the fields of machine learning, autonomous driving, infotainment development, and driver assistance systems. In Cluj, we create the framework to gather data, develop solutions to better understand the environment, and improve safety and thus the overall driving experience. During the development process, our software engineers are able to implement and test the software packages in project cars and real scenarios that can provide relevant input.

Software has become a very important part of a vehicle, controlling various critical functions and processes. Our software engineers in Cluj are working in cross-competency teams to construct and oversee the development of high-voltage batteries that deliver the best performance at the optimum reliability conditions. Our engineers use virtual environments and ADAS simulation activities to create testing grounds and run simulations on a variety of traffic situations and vehicle behaviors. Automation and state-of-the-art tools help us deliver better solutions more quickly. Our DevOps and database developers have joined efforts for maximum efficiency and rapid development.

Since the subsidiary opened, teams have focused on mechanical product development and finite element analysis in the innovation of future vehicles. From concept design to series production, our mechanical engineers work with both conventional and electrical propulsion systems, and demonstrate an expertise in powertrains and the development of high-voltage batteries. Our engineers deliver fast, accurate solutions throughout the development process, covering all topics from statics and fatigue to fluid dynamics and crash simulation.

Testing
Testing
The Cluj subsidiary relies on extensive manual and web/mobile automation as well as HiL automation testing for vehicle control units. From infotainment and connected cars to high-voltage and autonomous driving, Porsche Engineering Romania provides expertise in automation testing in virtual environments, HiLs, or test benches. The automotive world is increasingly connected to the outside, so we ensure that all solutions have a high level of security with in-house hardware, software testing tools, and services such as security strategy and -concept, risk analysis, and vulnerability testing.

Project support
The project support group in Cluj offers a variety of engineering and project management services ranging from specific automotive concepts like product data management, where every detail has a significant impact on the car project, to matters of internal organization like quality management.
Our young acquisition team is responsible for ordering and tracking the components needed to build test vehicles. We are also active in the quality after-sales field and fulfill all quality standards required by our customers.

University cooperation

Since Porsche Engineering opened in Cluj, we have established a close collaboration with the Technical University Cluj-Napoca. The first step of the company’s development was partnering with the university’s automotive engineering faculty. In autumn of 2017 we started the Porsche engineering master’s program, in which the university’s top 20 engineering students are currently enrolled. We offered 11 master’s thesis topics based on allocation interviews. Furthermore, five scholarships at bachelor level and 10 Porsche Engineering scholarships for the master’s program are offered to students with outstanding technical and soft skills.

Student contest

Porsche Engineering Romania periodically organizes a contest for students with technical backgrounds. Professional mentors from Porsche Engineering guide students during the event. This is an opportunity to develop an idea that will change the future of the automotive industry. The 2019 Porsche Engineering student contest addressed the themes of vehicle-to-grid development, used electric car batteries, analysis and statistics, dynamic driving assistant, battery power sharing, and reverse engineering. It represents a chance for students and their teams to bring an idea to life in tandem with Porsche Engineering—a truly unique opportunity to collaborate with us.
